Northern Nights Music Festival
A Unity Travel Certified Review
Northern California, home of a famous chunk of U.S. wine country, the monumental Redwood Forest, and Northern Nights Music Festival.
Northern Nights Music Festival (NNMF) is a 3-day celebration of music, art, food and local culture that takes place annually the 3rd weekend in July. This year NNMF will be July 15-17, 2016 at Cookâs Valley Campground on the South Fork Eel River. This area has hosted many acclaimed music festivals and renowned talent over the past 20 years.
NNMF was founded on passionate support for & a strong understanding of emerging underground music industries, AND featuring sought out producers & DJs from regions around the globe.
Who hosts it
NNMF is hosted by BLAP Productions, one of the most ingrained festival production companies on the west coast. They have been playing an integral part in the growth of the music festival scene in Northern California for years. We thoroughly enjoyed working with their entire team during NNMF 2015; everyone was extremely professional and down to earth.
Expect to see a well organized event run by friendly people!
When it is and What the Weather will be Like
Traditionally, NNMF takes place in the 3rd weekend of July. This year the festival lands on July 15-17.
Expect for the weather to be sunny and very warm. Depending on how wet the summer is, it could also be a bit humid. Donât forget to drink lots of water and make sure to bring the sunblock and sunglasses!
How to Get To NNMF and Where to Stay
NNMF is located just outside of Garberville, CA at the Cookâs Valley Campground and is about 4 hours north of San Francisco. It is a bit of a journey, but itâs a very simple one. You should be able to stick to the CA HWY 101 all the way from the Golden Gate Bridge. The festival entrance will be very clearly marked and visible from the highway.
We do have a very limited number of VIP charter seats available for guests who would like a ride from San Francisco to NNMF. Ride in a premium Mercedes sprinter can while you nap, pregame, or just relax on your way to the festival!
Festival Address: 83950 ROAD 442E, PIERCY, CA 95587
If you plan on camping, you will be able to camp right inside the forest and on the banks of the river that runs through the festival grounds. Camping is an awesome experience especially at night as there will be many different after parties and activities.
If camping isnât your thing, donât worry because youâre not alone! The best place to stay would be in Garberville. We have set up some exclusive NNMF travel packages at Unity.Travel. You can book your hotel, reserve VIP hotel-to-event shuttle service, and even book your NNMF tickets all in one package.
The Venue and Capacity
Cookâs Valley Campground is a truly gorgeous place. Itâs basically a grove of trees and river shoreline tucked right into a mountain side. Campgrounds are placed all around the festival area. There are plenty of places to swim inside of the festival. Thatâs right, you can swim in the river while artists are performing in the background. Awesome, right!?
The total capacity of this event in 2015 was about 5,000-7,500. NNMF is expecting at least that many this year.
The people that attend NNMF are some of the most relaxed, chill, down to earth, and friendly people on the planet. They are there for the music and good vibes, not the drama.
Since this festival is so remote you might expect that the food options are limited, but that is far from the truth. The food trucks that drive in from miles around feature organic and vegetarian options that are DELICIOUS! There are still the standard pizza and burgers options too, but you are definitely not limited to cheap fried food at all. You can also stock up on other amenities at the general store inside the festival. NNMF has got your covered!
Things to Do
Northern Nights is on of those events where you could easily wander off in any direction and find something interesting to look at, experience, or listen to. There are your main stage areas with excellent sound systems and bars. Then there are sub-stage areas nestled inside the camp grounds where you can catch a burlesque or comedy show. There is also a merchant area where you can shop from local artists and retailers. If none of that tickles your fancy, then you can easily spend hours feasting your eyes on the dozens of art installations located all over the festival grounds.
What makes the Festival Different
Many people might not know this but Northern Nights is actually one of the most environmentally sustainable festivals on the world! They won the âA Greener Festivalâ award in 2014 and continue to take active steps to making sure their guests âtread lightlyâ while still partying hard!
Overall Rating: 10/10 MUST ATTEND
This is definitely not your typical festival and that is why we strongly suggest that you attend. One of the most important parts of human experience is to expand your horizons and experience new cultures. Attending NNMF is going to be one of those experience you look back upon and think, âWow I am so glad that we did that!â
